This impressive 18" diameter copper table celebrates the largest island in Naragansset Bay and home of the famous Newport, Rhode Island.
To create each individual copper table top, the island map with a compass rose is carefully hand-drawn by the artist, using a special etching technique. Also hand-etched onto the copper table top is the famous Oliver W. Holmes quote "The great thing in this world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving - We must sail sometimes with the wind, and sometimes against it - But we must sail, and not drift, nor lie at anchor."
A brown patina is applied, highlighting the artistry of the piece. The edges are specially crimped, coated with a semi-gloss sealant, and then the copper top is mounted onto a base made of solid, reclaimed mahogany wood crafted by a former Newport, Rhode Island boat maker. The mahogany has been polished with tung oil to bring out the natural beauty of the wood.
Each copper table is one-of-a-kind piece, signed, and includes a secret number located inside the compass rose. It is surprisingly simple to maintain its high quality within your home. In fact, we recommend only soap and water occasionally. Avoid commercial polish or metal cleaners as they can break down the protective layers of sealant.
