Linen
After satisfying the craving, it is time to take care of your precious fabric, and your investment in comfort. Linen loves water...ideally, when you wash your Linen Blanket choose a front-loading machine that will give plenty of room for circulation.
Washing: Wash on a Gentle cycle with as much water as possible to allow for movement. Avoid harsh detergents; we use Cheer Free and Gentle. Whenever the fabric rubs on itself in a "dry" condition it will abrade, and show fiber on the surface.
Drying: Dry on a low setting. Linen is a Natural fiber; it grew as a plant. Although it will not rot or mildew the soft spun yarns that we chose for our blankets can be degraded in the laundry. Careful drying is really important. Think of Linen as a woody fiber that will become brittle if it is dried at a high temperature or for an extended period. It is better to remove it slightly damp from the drier than to bake and break fibers. With proper care, your Linen Blanket will be a treasured heirloom for generations.
Natural Yarn: We have woven our Linen Blankets from dew-retted wet spun line fiber yarn of our design. These yarns have absolutely no chemical additives and by hackling the fiber most of the short fiber has been removed to give a silky fiber with a high luster. The Natural yarn color will change from season to season just like the weather that helped the plant to grow.
Bone Yarn: The Bone colored fabric is created by Hydrogen Peroxide bleaching the least destructive to the plant and the most environmentally friendly. Please do not use any form of bleach on your blanket since it will tender the fiber and ruin the fabric. Linen is a marvel of Nature, a hollow fiber insulator and an old world heirloom. We are proud to be the only North American Weavers of the yarn and one of a handful of Linen Blanket makers in the world.
Cotton
There is no need to wash your cotton blankets before use, they won't shrink… all of our blankets are pre-washed and tumble dried during the final manufacturing process. This assures their "hand" and a stable dimension.
Washing: Our blankets wash beautifully. Ideally a front-loading machine is best. Machine wash on a short gentle setting, making sure that the blanket is evenly distributed and wet before adding your detergent. Please dilute your detergent before adding. We recommend liquid detergents. Do not use chlorine products, it will degrade and discolor the natural fibers. We suggest that if you use detergents with whiteners, that they be used on our White blankets only since we have found that these whiteners can distribute unevenly.
Drying: Tumble dry on high, only until dry. Do not over-dry. Do not dry on low…the fabric will abrade. It is best to get it dry on high and remove promptly.
Enjoy!
