Through a challenging combination of art and chemistry, a Rhode Island artist has perfected the art of manually weathering copper - and the effects are spectacular!
Normally, it takes 30 or more years for copper to achieve the verdigris color most recognized by people as a patina. Within the artist's controlled studio, however, this oxidation process is greatly sped up through the careful application of various chemicals to the copper. Artfully applied so that the sea-inspired design emerges from each copper art piece, it takes the artist's full attention to guide the oxidation process toward that signature green patina so popular on copper today.
Once the perfect hue is achieved, she immediately halts all further oxidation, capturing the vivid color by coating the entire copper art piece with a special sealant. Two additional coats are later applied to ensure the colors remain true for years to come.
As a result, each copper wall hanging is painstakingly crafted as a one-of-a-kind piece with outstanding quality. It is surprisingly simple to maintain this quality within your home. No special care is needed. In fact, we recommend only soap and water occasionally. Avoid commercial polish or metal cleaners which can break down the sealant.
All 10in copper wall art pieces are reinforced on the back with wood and include a picture-hanging wire already attached for easy hanging. Mix and match several pieces together to achieve a unique nautical home decor, or feature one alone as a stunning copper focal piece. 10in x 10in
