This spectacular copper wall art piece consists of 4 individual copper tiles mounted on a 34in x 10in copper frame. Each hand-formed copper tile features a warm brown or stunning green starfish, nautical shell, or sand dollar that has been special created through a challenging combination of art and chemistry called copper patination.

Normally it takes 30 years or more for copper to achieve the array of colors most recognized by people as a patina. Within the artist's controlled studio, however, this oxidation process is sped up through a careful application of various chemicals onto the copper tiles. Artfully applied so that the sea-inspired designs emerge from each copper tile, it takes the artist's full attention to guide the oxidation process toward the signature ocean greens and sandtone browns so popular on copper pieces today.

Once the perfect hue is achieved, she immediately halts all further oxidation, capturing the vivid color by coating each copper tile with a special sealant. Two additional coats are later applied to ensure the colors remain true for years to come.

The end result is a painstakingly created, one-of-a kind copper art piece with outstanding quality. It is surprisingly simple to maintain this quality within your home. No special care is needed. In fact, we recommend only soap and water occasionally. Avoid commercial polish or metal cleaners which can break down the sealant.

Because each piece is an individual work of art, colors and appearance will vary. Inspired by the ocean waters of the New England coast, it creates a vibrant copper focal piece in any room. Includes already-attached picture wire for easy hanging. 34in x 10in x 1in

Patina is usually a green film formed naturally on copper and bronze by age or long exposure or use, or artificially (as by acids) and often valued aesthetically for its beautiful color. Although patinas occur naturally over time and with nature, the process of oxidation can be sped up through different techniques.

The application of various chemicals to metals as well as some heat processes can create some of the beautiful colors you see in this body of work. The effect of patination of metals such as brass and copper can vary greatly. Colors may range from greens and blues, to brown, reds and golds. The unpredictable nature of this process is what entices the artist to create them. No two colors are ever identical! Only the most alluring colors are picked for the jewelry pieces. They are then cold connected by riveting the brass and copper pieces onto sterling silver.
