In New England it takes 30 or more years for copper to achieve the verdigris color most recognized by people as a patina.  Copper actually has many different stages of oxidation before turning this green color. Within the artist’s controlled studio, however, this process is greatly sped up through the careful application of various chemicals.  Artfully applied so that the spiral design emerges from each copper top, it takes the artist’s full attention to guide the oxidation process toward that signature green patina so popular on copper pieces today.

Only an immaculate attention to detail, meticulous pretreatment of the copper, and a carefully controlled application of chemicals will achieve the consistently positive result on the copper table top As a result, the artist is able to capture the exact moment the perfect green colors emerge from the copper. At that point, she halts all further oxidation and coats the entire copper top with a special resin sealant. Two additional coats are later applied to ensure the colors remain true for years to come and the non-patinated copper will remain bright and shiny.

The edges of this copper table are specially crimped, and then the copper top is mounted onto a base made of solid, reclaimed mahogany wood crafted by a former Newport, Rhode Island boat maker. The mahogany base of our copper table has been polished with tung oil to bring out the natural beauty of the wood.

Each copper table painstakingly emerges as a one-of-a-kind piece with outstanding quality. It is surprisingly simple to maintain this quality within your home. In fact, we recommend only soap and water occasionally. Avoid commercial polish or metal cleaners as they can break down the protective layers of sealant.
