On Nash Island, off the coast of Maine, live a flock of sheep that have been untended for generations. This local breed provides fleeces to the coastal craftspeople who create the Swan's Island Winter Blanket. Hand-dyed with all natural materials and painstakingly handwoven, each blanket is created to the highest standards using only the cleanest and softest fleece. Unlike mass produced textiles, a handwoven blanket shows the authenticity of the craftspeople who made it - from the tightness of the weave to subtle changes in color, each blanket stands apart from any other. This blanket uses a winter weave - 2 layers of wool for warmth - and the edges are finished with silk threads. After being carefully inspected, each blanket is shipped in a custom designed linen storage bag, with slats of protective aromatic cedar. Swans Island stands 100% behind every blanket and throw they create. Blankets can be professionally dry-cleaned or sent back for an organic soap wash, then blocked and dried. Pilling may occur with any woven item, but may be gently removed by hand, or can Swan's Island can also depill any product they weave. Swan's Island even has a "Blanket Hospital" where blankets and throws can be repaired should the family dog decide to make a chew-toy out of your heirloom blanket! or some such unfortunate incident.
