Exotic Grains of Paradise Mignonette puts a flavorful new twist on this classic French accompaniment to oysters on the half-shell, even though it's made here in New England (Maine)! Your typical mingonette pepper is simply pepper and shallots - this one, from Vervacious, is made with g
rains of paradise and lots of flavors from many favorite oyster regions providing a refreshing gingery and peppery tanginess to your seafood, either raw or cooked. This mignonette is also excellent with lamb, veal, or poulty. Grains of Paradise also offer a nice fat-free alternative to fried seafoods, too.
Grains of paradise originate in West Africa, where they grow on leafy plants. They were once the "pepper of Europe" before modern sea routes opened up, bringing the less expensive black pepper to the continent. The name came from Medieval spice traders seeking a way to drive the price up - legend has it that these peppery seeds grew only in Eden, and had to be collected as they drifted down the rivers out of paradise. Grains of paradise have a zesty flavor reminiscent of pepper, with the hint of flowers, coriander and cardamom.
Arrives in signature curvy, stackable 100 ml. bottle (3.4 oz.). Lable is removeable, so you can repurpose these cool bottles, too!
Handcrafted in Maine.
"When I saw these Vervacious spices, teas, and sauces in the corner, I uttered a rather embarrassing squeal of delight. These beautifully crafted little glass jars are curved and structured so that they stack on top of one another to form a wavy glass tower. It transforms an assortment of teas/spices/sauces/cocoa into a mini sculpture. There is something very satisfying about having an assortment or collection of things; perhaps it's the 'collect-em-all' mentality; or maybe just the aesthetic pleasure of seeing things that are obviously a 'set' yet are varied and individual...clever design plays off of and elevates this joy. I also love how the glass really showcases the beautiful color and texture of the product. The whole packaging experience is one of a truly desirable, high-quality, artisanal product." - M. Chang
