This handcrafted brass Christmas ornament is an eye-catching representation of The Compass Rose - the famous nautical device appearing on sailor's charts and maps since the 1300's. The Compass Rose helped orient the sea-faring reader by marking the 4 directions - North, West, East, and South. Sketched along the edge of the holiday ornament is the famous Oliver W. Holmes quote "The great thing in this world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving. We must sail sometimes with the wind, and sometimes against it. But we must sail, and not drift, nor lie at anchor."
The brass ornament is hand finished with a protective sealant that preserves the color, luster, and sheen. No special care required. Diameter is 3.5 inches. Makes a wonderful hostess gift, or adorn your own tree with this nautical treasure.
