One of our most popular items! This impressive 12" diameter copper wall art is an eye-catching representation of The Compass Rose - the famous nautical device appearing on sailor's charts and maps since the 1300's. The Compass Rose helped orient the sea-faring reader to the map by marking the 4 directions - North, West, East, and South.
To create each individual copper wall art piece, the compass rose is carefully hand-etched by the artist, using a special technique. Also hand-etched onto the copper piece is the famous Oliver W. Holmes quote, "The great thing in this world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving -We must sail sometimes with the wind, and sometimes against it - But we must sail, and not drift, nor lie at anchor."
Upon completion of each copper wall piece, a semi-gloss sealant is applied to maintain and protect the copper color and quality. Surprisingly, this copper piece is easy to clean with just a damp cloth. Size: 12" dia. x 3/4" thick. Mounting hardware already attached, so this piece is ready for hanging.
A rarely-seen, unique piece of copper wall decor reminiscent of the world's grand maritime achievements. Hand-crafted in Rhode Island - brought to your by The New England Trading Company.
